For the first time in its history Pyecombe held a Karaoke night: roughly 60 members and guests turned up.
The music and Karaoke were run by Just Don (karaoke & sing-a-long). From the outset people got up and sang. Captain Kevin Fairfax was the first to sing, setting the bar extremely high - he had been hiding his light all these years, members realised with astonishment. Fortunately his skill didn't deter anybody and there was a steady supply of singers for the rest of the evening. Alex and his crew did us a hot & cold buffet which was excellent, and Bob Downer did a fantastic job behind the bar.
Highlights of the night:
Ken Barnard*: Strangers in the Night
Kevin & Jane Fairfax: You don't bring me flowers any more
Jane Fairfax & Trevor Greenfield: Summer Loving
The Gavin Family (rough age range from 7 to 60): several great numbers - our very own 'Von Trapp singers'!
Terry Reilly: Ruby
Mark Kemp: What a Wonderful World (great imitation of Louis Armstrong with a bit of Tommy Cooper thrown in)
Colin Kemp: Daniel, after Elton John
Annie Prior* and Annie Eves: Stand By Your Man
Although no prizes were awarded, outstanding singers of the night were:
Best male singer: Kevin Faifax, Best female singer: Andy Foot's wife, Judith, who sang 9 to 5.
