PAV i.t. Trophy 2008 - Quarter Final

Results, home vs W Sussex, 10 May:

Morning foursomes, Pyecombe won 4-0:
John Deacon & Andy Barnes won 7&6 vs Mark Shaw & Paul Turrell
Ian Taylor & Drew Bailey bt Colin Jones & Dave Travis 3&1
Trevor Greenfield & Phil Hubble bt Julian Hunt & Julian McCree 8 & 6
Julian Deans & Michael Stoner bt Max Farrant & Jamie Donaldson 1 up

Afternoon singles:
(Pye players named first)
Michael Stoner bt Jamie Donaldson 2&1
Drew Bailey lost to Dave Travis 2 down
Julian Deans bt Colin Jones 1 up
Trevor Greenfield lost to Max Farrant 4&3
Phil Hubble lost to Paul Turrell 5&4
Andy Barnes by Julian McCree 4 &2
John Deacon bt Mark Shaw 4&3
Ian Taylor bt Julian Hunt 5&4.

As you can see by the result, the Pyecombe boys were up for it. In the morning round Phil Hubble & Trevor Greenfield must have really upset their opponents by getting a half on the second hole after taking a drop. To make matters worse, Trevor hit a sand-iron onto the tenth green ten foot pass the hole and then watched as the backspin zipped into the hole for an eagle two.
There were good ;wins from the newest members of the team, Julian Deans & Ian Taylor; also from the stalwarts John Deacon & Andy Barnes. Michael Stoner had a fantastic win over ex-pro Jamie Donaldson. Overall, it was a great achievment by the team and we wish them every success in the semi-finals.

Final result: Pyecombe won 9-3 and go through to the semi-finals.
This is the second time in 9 years Pye have reached the semi's, & the 8th time in 9 years that we have reached the quarter finals.

George Eves.
